The Last Liquor Store in Marrakech

The title of this short story is incongruous. A contradiction. In Morocco where Islam is the official state religion, It can be nearly impossible to find a beer & liquor store. Which usually proves not to be a problem as the stunning scenery does more for your senses than any drink could. But on our last day in the country, Amanda and I wanted to mark three weeks wandering from Casablanca to Marrakech with a proper toast. This is where it gets interesting…

The Rat Run-In

Adam and I had no business being outside at midnight, but we were on a mission that was commissioned by me. I was hungry and no stores or restaurants were opened near our hotel located in the suburbs of Hoi An, Vietnam. It was an especially quiet night because we were in Vietnam during the Têt (the Vietnamese New Year) and most residents and shop owners were away for the holiday, leaving the majority of businesses closed. Waiting until the next day to eat seemed absurd because my stomach was rumbling too loud to wait any longer. After a brief look at Google Maps, Adam found a small cluster of stores a little over a mile away that could be open and we were on our way to try our New Year luck. But it was now 2020…

Tikka the Dog

SNAP! CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH. SNAP! CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH.

My eyes moved downward as I watched a lone piece of biscuit fall from my lips and join the avalanche of crumbs that rolled down my belly and onto my crossed legs. I was absentmindedly chewing while staring into the distance at the quickly-moving scene that played outside of the second-story window of our Sleeper Bus. “Wait! There is an entire city painted in my favorite color blue?!” I yelled, as I stared at a breathtaking picture of the turquoise and cerulean-painted city of Chefchaouen tucked between the peaks of the Rif Mountains in northern Morocco.

Adam and I knew from that moment, that we wanted to explore the rest of what the country had to offer including the busy souks of Marrakesh, the cultural history of Fes, the port of Casablanca and the gritty artistic vibe of Tangier. Little did we know that behind this beauty lies a Dirty. Little. Secret. One that we had to find out the hard way…

The Hairy Yogini: A Tale of Saying F**** It

I walked into my yogasana class in Rishikesh, India, excited and anxious about furthering my yoga practice in the yoga capital of the world. I was ready.
